Six Senses
Guided Meditation
Step Away From The Screen & Enter the World Again
Modern Life Can Leave us Fragmented and Disconnected from the Real World.
Notifications. Pop-Ups. Scrolling. Inboxes.
For many of us our daily experience is in front of screens. We navigate our personnel and work lives through a maze of applications and inboxes - each fighting for our precious attention. Often the end result is not more information or wisdom, but an inability to focus for more than a few minutes and a sense of urgency about everything.
Air Conditioning, Plastic Plants, Artificial Lighting
Our modern indoor spaces can keep us safe and comfortable, but they can remove us from essential natural elements such as natural daylight, fresh air and views. We become detached from the natural world, even though we are part of it and rely upon it.
This workshop offers a different pace, and space.
First we’ll ditch our electronics and work on slowing down our minds. We can never really stop thinking, but we can slow the mind down and direct it to a point where it can be focused - and open.
Then, we can reconnect with natural world around us to learn from it.
Flow
We’ll start the program with short introduction and meditation to help get you into a open, calm state. We’ll then dive into an activity for each sense. We’ll end with observations, discussions and tips for you to practice anytime, anywhere.
-

Sight
Move from a wide view of the landscape to the smallest details of leaves, light, movement, colour, and texture.
-

Hearing
Listen beyond the most obvious sounds and notice the different layers of the environment around you.
-

Smell
Explore how scent connects us to place, memory, seasons, and emotion.
-

Touch
Notice temperature, air, sunlight, the ground beneath you, and the textures of the natural world.
-

Taste
Slow down a simple act of eating and discover how much sensory information is usually missed.
-

Beyond
Turn your attention inward and notice breathing, heartbeat, tension, warmth, energy, and other signals from the body. Turn your attention outward, and in your calmer state, what else do you observe about the world around you?
Who Is It For?
This workshop may be useful for you when:
You spend much of the day looking at screens
Your mind feels busy or overstimulated
You find it difficult to slow down
You want to reconnect with nature
You are curious about meditation but dislike overly abstract approaches
You want to improve your awareness, focus, and presence
No previous meditation experience is required. There is no pressure to feel calm, clear your mind, or have a particular experience. Restlessness, distraction, and discomfort can all be part of noticing.
